 Tips for Outdoor Skating

Roller Skates

Are you tired of just skating in the rinks and want to try something more adventurous? The outdoors are a perfect place for you. You can improve your roller skating skills by trying different paths. And did you know that skating is a great aerobic exercise? So, by covering long distances, you are also improving your cardiovascular fitness. Not only is skating outdoors more fun but also more challenging! And before you take out your outdoor roller skates, take note of these tips for a better and safer roller skating experience.

Check your path

As a skater, it is best to know your route beforehand. Paths with puddles or gravel can cause trouble while skating. Skating on wet pavement can cause your wheels to slide, which can result in a fall. Also, moisture can ruin your skating boot and cause the bearing to rust, which would prevent them from spinning. Similarly, a gravel path hampers a proper skating experience and damages your skates. Make sure to check the route that you plan to skate on to protect the condition of your skates and for a smooth skating experience.

The right wheels

The rink skates are not suitable for the outdoors. Instead of buying a new pair of outdoor roller skates, you can simply change the wheels. Consider the following two things while getting new wheels for outdoor skating.

Durometer - Wheels with lower rating numbers are softer, while ones with higher numbers are harder. The durability, grip, and sock absorption depend on the durometer. A lower durometer is fit for outdoor wheels as they assist with the little bumps on the path and kick away tiny gravel from under the skate. Suitable durometer range ranges are from 74A to 105A.

Size - The size of the wheel means its height. The shorter wheels are easy to manage and slower, and the taller ones are faster and allow a smoother flow.

Safety gear

Unlike the skating rink, the outdoors have a harsher surface. It is best to carry and wear your safety gear for protection. It includes knee pads, elbow pads, a helmet, and wrist guards.

Carry water

Whether it is a sunny or an overcast day, it is essential to carry a water bottle with you for hydration. It also comes in handy in case you trip and get dirty. You can use the water to clean yourself.
